Why the negative karma of having the wrong view is so severe? According to Chittamatra school, various virtuous and unvirtuous seeds are stored in the alaya consciousness of sentient beings. Once we engender wrong views, which will vanquish all the power of virtuous seeds, from then on, the virtuous seeds or the root of virtue in our mind stream will discontinue.

There are two ways to purify one’s negative karma. The first is to confess before the karma matures, thus purifying the negative karma without suffering the consequences. The second is to suffer the consequences of the negative karma thus eliminating the karma.

The goal in Buddhism is to enter into clarity. In everyday life, the longer we can abide in clarity, the more quickly compassion, love, and faith will grow; afflictions will also diminish gradually until finally Buddhahood is attained.

Bodhicitta is our eternal, ultimate insurance policy. In order to assure our safety in samsara, we need to have an insurance policy as such, which is not bought, rather it needs to be cultivated with compassion. One can only cultivate bodhicitta with loving kindness and compassion.

As the sutra says: “The essence of all phenomena is life.” Of all living beings including humans, nothing is more important and precious than life. If bestowing life to others, one bestows all happiness to others.

Ignorance gives rise to volitional actions, volitional actions to consciousness and ultimately birth to old age and death. Each preceding cause gives rise to the subsequent effect which in turn gives rise to the next cause and so on. This is dependent origination. The same also applies in reverse. That is, when ignorance stops, volitional actions stop as well, then consciousness, name and form....until birth stops, finally aging and death stop. Dependent origination thus ceases. The continuation of dependent origination is samsara, its ceasing liberation from samsara.

Pure perception is the essential, most important, most salient and unique view of the secret mantra vehicle. Although the Mahayana Vimalakirti Sutra also clearly explained pure perception, recognizing that the original quality of the world is not the impure world that we perceive, but the purity of the Buddha.

As soon as there is a concept of "self," there is differentiation between you, me, and him. When we become individual entities, what follows is resentment and competition amongst each other. In this process, greed and anger are like billows that engulf our spirit and prevent us from knowing what to do.

If everything were predestined and immutable as some non-Buddhists believe, what would be the point of undertaking spiritual practice? Since everything has already been set, there is no point trying to change anything in life—if you are having a good life, rejoice in your good fortune; if you are having a miserable one, just bear it. By the same token, if everything were predetermined, it would be useless to give food to the needy since going hungry would have been their destiny anyway. Hence, fatalism fails to stand up to scrutiny.
