WORDS OF WISDOM

While giving lecture and holding discussion at the University of Tokyo, I realized that the attendees would like to know more about the Buddhist way of training the mind, whereby they hope people can maintain mental health in this modern era and derive benefit in the course of self-development.

My guru gave initiation and teaching at this dharma center in Malacca 21 years ago. I came specifically to see this house which has not been used for a long time, the front yard now covered in grass. I looked around carefully; an inexplicable feeling welled up in me. After a long while, I knelt down facing the house and touched my forehead to the ground three times, then left reluctantly.

Here we begin a new year again. No one knows what lies ahead, but everyone must keep going. What we can do is to train our minds to face whatever comes our way without fear.

On Tokyo Metro, people can be roughly grouped into six clusters: the phubbers, the thinkers, the day dreamers, the dozers, the readers and the rest. Basically, they’re all in the silent camp.

Lunar New Year is coming. Wish you and your families all the best. Hopefully, our happy time is not doom for animals; have a healthy, caring and merry spring festival.

While learning the Dharma, many people encounter various questions. I try to answer some of the questions regarding life, spiritual practice, releasing lives, etc. in a series of Q&A sessions on the official website Luminous Wisdom. May you find them helpful.
